O LORD, make me know my end
and what is the measure of my days;
let me know how fleeting I am!
Behold you have made my days a few handbreaths,
And my lifetime is as nothing before you.
Surely all mankind stands as a mere breath!
Surely a man goes about as a shadow!
Surely for nothing they are in turmoil;
Man heaps up wealth and does not know who will gather!
And now, O Lord, for what do I wait?
My hope is in you.
Psalm 39:4-7
What I usually do is read a psalm or two a day and meditate on its contents for the length of the day, in the process sucking the marrow out of it as much as is possible according to my limited understanding.
I’ve been stuck on this psalm for the past month.
Something about these few verses especially arrests me.
The content is nothing new. Life is fleeting and life is brief. We need to live every moment to the fullest; in the Christian context, that means living every moment unto the Father, honouring and pleasing Him with every second of our lives.
Old hat, really.
But the plaintive cry of the psalmist here strikes such a chord within, finds such a kindred resonance within me that I could not help but cry out daily this ancient cry to my Lord.
Knowledge of the truth is one thing. Walking and living in it momentarily – the point where truth becomes living truth – is another. And it is with such a deep groaning in my heart, for the public and the private to be one; for the truth that He fills my inward being with to be converted to thought, word and action, that I turn my eyes brokenly and expectantly to my Lord.
I do not want to waste my time on transient things. I do not want to chase after empty dreams. I do not want to blind myself with futile pursuits. I do not want to give myself to nothingness.
I want my life to echo for eternity. I want to lay hold of eternity. I want to grasp the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
Help me to see, O God, my temporality! Help me to know intimately my brevity!
I am but a spark in the flame of existence! I am a blip in space and time!
So then help me to live each moment unto You! Delighting in You! Glorying in You! Becoming like You in the likeness of Christ! Honouring You! Pleasing You! Poured out, burnt up, living AND dying for You!
For my hope is in You.
Hear my prayer, O LORD,
and give ear to my cry;
hold not Your peace at my tears!
For I am a sojourner with You,
a guest, like all my fathers.

ya..true, relationships are not so easy, but at least you try.And if God tells you to kill, will you? there is no evidence tat God exist, why would you believe in Him so much? so if God does not tell you to do anything, you wouldn’t, and just let him waste his life away? If He tells you to do nth, you will, and let your father die just like that?
:]
Keep your faith going mr sng. Just pray n trust in the Lord. You can edify your father with your wisdom n share with him the gospel. U can also share with him the read pray grow as a start.At least bring him to church, I believe that continuous prayer will bring him closer, the Lord will make everything beautiful in his own time, he will always give you a listening ear. With full support from me.
But is it true that there’s no evidence that God exists?
If you really want to discuss this, i can. But not through this platform. You’d be surprised to know how much evidence there is that suggests God or some intelligent higher being exists.
With regards to God telling me to kill or do nothing, well, i’d firmly rule out that possibility.
I guess you need to know the character or personality of God to know that because He is All-loving and All-holy, when i go to Him in prayer, He’ll be urging me to do something about this situation. That’s because He loves me and because He loves my father.
It’s really not a question about what i should do, i.e. to reach out to my father and start building a relationship with him, but how i’m to go about it.
Prayer is not an excuse to procrastinate. In fact, to be utterly truthful, prayer is the propellant of true, God-honouring action.
ya..there are evidence there’s someone up there, but why would you believe in Jesus instead of other God? How are you so sure tat He will not ask u to commit crimes? there will always be a possibility. err.. if not here, where else? Email?
yeah…why not?
email me your queries and doubts and i’ll try my best to answer them
