The match is struck,
sweet tinder on flint,
a yellow-orange-blue
startles to life,
then dropped
and falls
down and through
my paper-thin heart,
and the yellow-black
rounds outwards in
concentric,
and the burn is
so slow,
as I watch indifferent,
afar and away,
the black ash and grey.

I still adore you
and that I knew;
as I woke into dream
fantastical, rich
and achingly real.
The moment we shared –
when our eyes met
in wondrous recognition;
when our hearts flickered,
burst into passion.
I still see your face,
etched deep in me;
the light of your eyes,
darting and sharp,
the tongues of incandescent flame.
