Fluorescence encased neatly
in dullest whitest plastic;
filament glowing distant,
trapped a world
away in a world of glass,
inert in a flood of argon.
When did we grow so easy
with artificial light?
Do you not wonder that too many
shadows are cast? So many shadows
lie fallen every way and all painfully
faint. Near. Invisible. We stand. Paralysed
in these shadows, crying – Which shadow is
real? Which shadow is mine? If I do not cast a
shadow, am I real, in this light surreal?
And billions sit transfixed, alone,
in that light in the night that flickers
a million brilliant times a minute;
so insidious quick so into our
quivering hearts! our ravished
trembling minds! our bludgeoned
senseless souls! our persons! sucked
into a multitude of illusory realities.
We can barely see the stars tonight.
We have drowned them out
in man-made light. They are hid
and we miss their twinkling beckoning –
the true light. You are that light.
In your light do we see light.
We have loved the darkness
of this far gone night. Wait.
The day night is forsaken. Wait.
For him who will forever be our light!
hiie, mr sng? well, actually, u dunn update this webbie everyday rite? haha….i not expecting u to do that lar…haha…i dunn too….bye!:)
yeah, i don’t. i’m trying to post more regularly but i only do so as and when there’s something i really want to write about.
thanks for stopping by so often though…heh
oo i like your poem! and fortunately or unfortunately, im that kind of many-shadowed person. but i know which shadow i like best. so its not as awful as you make it seem. and i cant stand artificial light. at night, when i maple, i play in a dark house, so that my siblings can sleep without all the extra light and stuff. i heard its bad to sleep with lights on. and i dont like neon lights. they hurt my eyes. ‘our bludgeoned senseless souls! our persons! sucked into a multitude of illusory realities’ OH HOW TRUE. lol. though my soul isnt senseless. its just that, i play alot of games, dont take drugs, and uh daydream alot. haha. the last stanza is about god coming to save us isnt it? its a meaningful poem. though im not sure if i interpreted and understood it fully. oh well.
haha….no prop mr Sng. i like reading ur poems especially when it is about God. haha…biex….:)
ok i guess there’s some truth in this.
i sleep with the light on.
(i’ve been trying to do this everyday ‘cos i swear i heard my dead godmother calling me when i was five.i never want to go back to that again.)
atheist as i am,this is an inspiring poem,no doubt.
(and after reading this i noticed there are almost never more than three stars in the sky at a time.)
another nice poem! okay reading your poems can give me headaches. so profound. luckily the dictionary is my best friend. haha.
