i was making my way to the Potong Pasir MRT station, when i chanced upon a semi-kitten (which we all know is a kitten that’s not quite kitten and halfway to being an adult cat).
It was surprisingly playful and pranced over as soon as it caught the snap of my singers and the gentle smack-smack-smack noises of my lips.
My first thought was to consider whether or not i should touch the friendly feline for fear of dirtying my hands but decided that it should be rewarded for its very un-Singaporean show of amiability.
So there i was patting its head, scratching its chin and feeling it purr deep within its chest, as not a few people walked past us, staring curiously at this grown man who had stopped to shower a little attention on some random, and i might add, fortunate, kitten.
It was a beautiful evening. The slight shower in the afternoon and the downpour on the previous day combined to provide a cool, fresh accompaniment to my evening stroll to the station. The sun, o wondrous sun!, dispersed its rays just right in the dusk sky, painting a soothing wash of orange and lazy red across the expanse.
And as i knelt in the alley leading up to the station, bathed in the dying light, i felt that familiar melancholy seep into me.
When was the last time i stopped to enjoy the rare cool of a Singapore evening?
When was the last time i touched a cat without giving a second thought to cleanliness and germs and assorted diseases?
When was the last time i did i wanted to do at the precise moment i wanted to do it, curious stares of a million passers-by notwithstanding?
Don’t let me lose my wonder, O God.
This is your world.
Help me to enjoy your world.
Thank you for simple joys and pleasures. Like the one you blessed me with today.
Thank You.
read my blog!! on 11th July. *beams*
HAHA. reading your blog has increased the amount of time I spend reflecting and thanking God.HAHA
haha i bet the kitten was super fortunate(:
i love cats. huhu.
there was once my friends even screeched when i bent down to stroke this kitten that was somewhere in that alley shortcut to the mrt station. =.- well at least people just stared. my FRIENDS screeched. :/
i think the rainbow-coloured sky every sunrise and sunset is just a prettaye((:
haha especially when you view the vast expanse of the sky through a highway in a car(:
haha hope you will get to enjoy and see all the little things around you that ultimately make your day!(:
and cats are not plagued with assorted dieseases thank you -.-”
its better to enjoy and treasure those little things, and appreciate those little actions right now. Because you don’t know when you’ll lose it all.
like the balloon(:
i think i might have met the same friendly semi-kitten. haha
well, sarah, more proof that the same Spirit, God’s Spirit, is within us.
how strikingly similar our thoughts were!
i know they’re not plagued with assorted disease, quincy.
at least, not all of them are…heh.
i’d still touch them anyway. who can resist a kitten?
and, you know what, i hope even harder and i’ll pray just as hard, that you get to see that beauty everyday too, within and without yourself
don’t sound so pessimistic, charmaine. you’re too young!
but there’s truth in your comment, we all search for joy.
but joy that is ephemeral leaves one ultimately empty and worse off than before.
so a good question to ask is, “Is there such a thing as eternal joy?”
ponder, ponder, ponder…
what did it look like, reka?
how cute!
i can’t imagine you going down and petting it.too cute.
goodness!you and the cat in cartoon forms are forming in my mind, and the two of you are so cute!
was it black?i find black kittens interesting…
ohh!july 11!sec 4 farewell party!
i miss my seniors -.-…
anyway…
i asked the people in my ipw group if any of them can confess to not at some point in time having a crush on you (if at all).
two out of five raised their hands.
one of the two was said to have lied.
all of us were invigilated by you last year for oral ^^.
…now THAT was random.
note2 i didn’t raise my hand.
my friends were staring at me.
and remember you promised that when you leave cedar you’ll let us get cake on you?
if it’s after i graduate,as best as i can i shall attempt to return.
i will do my best to leave a print of my hand on your back.
if you dare to attempt to get cake on me and company when we become sec 4s,remember also that WE HAVE THE RIGHTS TO FIGHT BACK!!!!!
wahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha ^^!!!
That black and white one??
haha.
i think ive seen it 90% of the time i walk there
sssssssssoooooooooooo ssweeettt
uhhuh,
joy brings you the best feeling,
more than you’ve ever thought about
but when it leaves
it takes away
more than you’ve ever needed.
but i suppose,
without the tough times,
even if joy was everlasting,
it wouldn’t be the same.
it becomes something so normal,
and all would be taken for granted.
i guess joy’s like a rock hidden beneath the depths of a river;
on the surface the river seems so empty, swift and light,
but beneath that current actually lies a rock that stays firm below.
probably joy had been within us all along,
just that we never really found it, or even looked at it.
or did we simply choose to ignore it and instead search for something better?
eternal joy?
in one place, perhaps not,but if it could be anywhere…
yes,it’s possible.
depends on what gives you joy.
it could be the simple pleasures in life, stroking the semi-kittens like you did, touching the leaves on certain weeds and watching them fold up like shy little children, looking at creases in papers and wondering how they come about…
it could be love for something,or a hobby,or something dangerous that you did that you’d remember for a long time.
eternal joy is possible, but you’ve got to believe in it.
even the rock gets erroded away over time.
What is all this talk about JOy and rocks being eroded.
Joy is HERE.
