My Father (II)

He said, as he slipped his feet into his sandals, “You’re right. We don’t know love, until we know God’s love.”

With that, he turned away, a smile on his face, and i watched as the doors of the lift closed behind him.

This was shared by my father’s friend, Jeffrey at the first wake service on Wednesday.

If you knew my father, you would know that these words are astounding, coming from him.

The family of God, a.k.a. the body of Christ, is truly wondrous.

It’s so reassuring and comforting to know that at the most vulnerable times of your life, you can always count on brothers and sisters with whom your bonds are forged not by chance, not by flimsy alliances of common interests, not even by a sharing of “chemistry”.

Nay.

The bonds of Christian fellowship and friendship are tempered in the fires of the Holy Spirit and are thus made unbreakable.

Invincible.

Because it is the Holy One, the Lord God who upholds these bonds.

Yes, they must be maintained, cultivated and nurtured. However, the pressure and the burden of keeping the foundation of Christian fellowship intact fall on God. And we know He is able. Is he ever!

So thank you, my brothers and sisters, from my Exco, from VCF, from Temasek Hall, from Aldersgate and from the Church.

Thank you for displaying the reality of God’s agape.
